Madeline Fay Sheerin, 79, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 15 years and formerly of the Bronx, died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in the Bronx on May 13, 1932, she was the daughter of John Patrick and Helen Moriarty Fay. She worked for the Boy Scouts of America and A&P in the Bronx. Madeline was a parishioner of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville and enjoyed gardening.

On April 11, 1959 at St. Benedict's Church in the Bronx, Madeline married Richard T. Sheerin, Sr. who predeceased her on July 29, 2005. She is survived by her daughter Helen Wilson of Hopewell Junction; her son, Richard Sheerin and his wife Phyllis of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Katie, Vicky and Julie Wilson, Melissa and Nicole Sheerin and Robert Wirsing; her brother, John Fay of Cortlandt Manor; and her sister, Helen Kelleher of Eastchester.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at Blessed Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church or the American Cancer Society.
