Marcello Pannuto, 97, a resident of New Paltz since 2007 and formerly of Mineola, Queens, the Bronx and Philadelphia, died on April 10, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 19, 1922, he was the son of Enrico and Marcella (Ciccone) Pannuto. Marcello proudly served our country in the US Army during World War II. He had been employed as a language teacher for the New York City Public School System in Queens where he was very active in leading his students in various clubs and organizations. Following his retirement, he continued to teach adult ESL education for foreign students in Long Island, and was a private tutor.
Marcello was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hempstead, and the Church of God in Hempstead. He was an avid traveler, and enjoyed reading and playing chess. He was a lifelong learner, and a student of the Bible. He loved his family tremendously.
On July 4, 1956, Marcello married the love of his life, Estrella Mendez, who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Dennis Pannuto and his wife Rose; and his grandchildren, Sebastian, Alexandra and Cristian Pannuto. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Henry and Elena Pannuto.
Private interment was held in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Arlington, NJ.
