Obituary

WAPPINGERS FALLS - Margaret Mary Arthur, 83, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of Yonkers, passed away on June 29, 2021.

Born on December 24, 1937, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of Raymond and Anastasia (Delaney) MacDonald and little sister to brothers Ray and Jack. She attended St. Brendan's in the Bronx and graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan. Following high school, she attended secretarial school and began her career at Columbia Gas. While working at Columbia Gas, she met the love of her life, John E. "Jack" Arthur.

Margaret and Jack married on November 14, 1959 at St. Brendan's Church in the Bronx. In 1972, they moved up to Wappinger Falls with their three children: John, Donna, and Therese. They joined St. Dennis-St. Columba parish and enrolled their children in St. Columba School. Margaret remained a member of the parish for her entire life.

Margaret retired from Dutchess Community College after more than 30 years where she enjoyed working as Senior Program Assistant for the Allied Health and Biological Science Department. Margaret considered herself a "learner for life" and enjoyed attending classes and participating in educational trips through the college. Margaret had many fond memories of her years at the College working with students, teachers, and staff.

Margaret was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society, Reach to Recovery Program, the Cub Scouts, and the Welcome Wagon. She joined a flying club with her husband Jack, a private pilot, and together they enjoyed flying to local points of interest. They loved the beach, especially Cape Cod. Margaret loved traveling, reading, listening to music and singing, and shopping with her girls. For most of her adult life, Margaret could be found with a rescued cat as her constant companion. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family, especially attending her grandsons' concerts and sporting events.

Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Jack, who passed away on November 8, 2014, and her brother, John "Jack" MacDonald. She is survived by her children, John E. Arthur III and his partner Dawn Harrington, Donna Marie Kenney and her husband Michael, and Therese A. Coyne and her husband Thomas; her grandsons, Matthew and Ryan Kenney; her brother, Raymond MacDonald and his wife Helen; her sister-in-law, Patricia MacDonald; her cousins, Kathy Rose and Robert "Bobby" Arthur; many nieces and nephews; and her cat, Luke.
