EAST FISHKILL - Margaret Bauer, 85, a lifelong area resident, died on December 27, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Rhinebeck on June 18, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Alvah and Catherine (Hamilton) Loop. Margaret had been employed as a nurse's aide at the Kent Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting casinos and doing scratch off cards; however, more than anything, she loved being a mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was the most important part of her life.

On June 17, 1962 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, Margaret married the love of her life, John Bauer, who predeceased her on September 10, 2008. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Margaret Bauer, on April 1, 2021; her twin sister, Marjorie Palmateer; and her sister, Sally Wilcox.

Margaret is survived by her children, Karen Bauer, Janice Bauer and her partner Tim, John Bauer and his wife Patricia, and Joseph Bauer and his wife Kathleen; her grandchildren, Jamie Sprague, Brian Baccomo and his wife Polly, David Sprague, Stephen Bauer, Emily Bauer, Mary Bauer and Alice Bauer; her great-grandchildren, Maggie, Dylan, Derek and Charlotte; her devoted cats, Grace and Sophie; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10am at the Funeral Home followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
