Little River, SC- Margaret Sarah McLaughlin, 79, a resident of Little River since 1997, passed away on August 2, 2015 at her family's home in Poughkeepsie. Formerly a resident of East Fishkill, she was employed by the Town of East Fishkill for 24 years in the building department.
Born in NYC on April 9, 1936, Margaret was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (McDonnell) Smyth. Margaret left an imprint on every life she touched. When she conversed with you, she listened. When she heard your message, she cared. When she had the ability, she made a difference. And if she couldn't, she made sure you were on her prayer list every night. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was elegant on the outside. Her beautiful blue eyes were only a glimpse of how powerful her soul was. May her imprints bless all those she has encountered.
On January 12, 1957 at St. John's Church in the Bronx, Margaret married her best friend and love of her life Denis McLaughlin who survives at home. In addition to her loving husband of 59 years, Margaret is survived by her children Denis McLaughlin of Huntington Beach, CA, Brenda Fogarty of Poughkeepsie, and Suzanne Lovetree of Shokan; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her sister Patricia O'Neil of Warwick; her brother Michael Smyth of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. May Margaret rest in peace as she joins her daughter Gean and sisters Brenda and Virginia in Heaven.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
