Margaret Flowers Vought, 79, a five year resident of Raleigh and formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY, Trumbull, CT and Mahopac, NY, died on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Windsor Point Nursing Home in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
Born in Atlanta, GA on November 10, 1930, she was the daughter of James Jonathon Flowers Jr. and Frances Louisa Anderson. She received her Masters in Education, worked 20+ years as an elementary school teacher for the Ossining Public School System and was a co-founder of the Hudson Valley Christian Academy in Mahopac where she served as Headmaster and kindergarten teacher until her retirement in 1988. Margaret was a member of the New Beginnings Church (formerly Poughkeepsie Alliance Church), Colonial Baptist Church in Cary, NC, Wake County Republican Women's Club in Raleigh, NC, P.E.O. Chapter BX, Cary, NC, and the Dutchess County Republican Women's Club. She was also a Bridgeport Rescue Mission Volunteer and enjoyed politics, swimming and reading.
Margaret is survived by her children, Wallace Vought and wife Lynne of Somers, NY, James Vought and wife JoEllen of Raynham, MA, Dorothy Smith Credendino and husband Santo of Raleigh, NC, Jeanette Smith of Glenside, PA, Barbara Anne Vought Westerbeck and husband John of Enterprise, AL and Russell Vought and wife Mary of Washington, DC; her grandchildren, Rachel and Brenden Vought, Ashley, Jonathan and Michael Credendino, and Mikayla Westerbeck; and one great-grandchild, Dianara. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Bradford Lloyd Smith, in 1966; her second husband, Thurlow Bunyea Vought, in 2000; and her daughter, Kathryn Vought in 1981.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Gerhardt officiating. Interment will follow in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mahopac.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America in honor of Turk's 30+ years of service as a Scoutmaster. (www.scouting.org)
