Margarita Marquez, a Beacon resident since 1993, passed away at home on Monday, May 18, 2020. She was 89.
Margie was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on August 2, 1930. Her family later relocated to New York City, where she was a member of St. Cecilia Church. She worked as a case manager for the Archdiocese of New York at the New York Foundling child welfare agency. She also worked as a teacher's aide and retired in 1993.
Survivors include her son, Robert Romero of Poughkeepsie; her son, Steven Romero of Poughkeepsie; her daughter, Juanita McMahon (Sean) of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren: Kerensa McMahon of London, UK, Thomas McMahon of Poughkeepsie, Jolene McMahon-Galpin (Mark) of New Orleans, LA, Sheena McMahon of Jersey City, NJ, Hayley McMahon of Charleston, SC, Nestor Romero of Poughkeepsie, Paulette Battle of Poughkeepsie, and Jillian Romero of Highland; her great-grandchildren: Mylo Galpin, Theo Galpin, Joaquin Romero, Jasalyn Newman, Mariah Battle, Jermaine Battle III, Peter C. Longobardi, , Philip Anthony Allen Romero, Cheyenne Romero, Isiah Swinton, Nathaniel Swinton, Gabriel Cruz, and Natalia Romero; her siblings, Tom Diaz (Carol) of Beltsville, MD, Evelyn Luckner of Davies, FL, Norma Taylor of Lynchburg, VA, and David Mendez of Harrisburg, PA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
Margie was predeceased by her mother, Carmen Marquez; her son, Philip Romero; her daughter, Cynthia Romero; her grandsons, Joseph Christopher Romero and Philip Romero, Jr.; and four siblings: Richard Mendez, Cleo Kennelly, Eileen Mendez, and Elenor Mendez.
