Maria Basciano, 67, a resident of Holmes, died on May 18, 2021 at Putnam Hospital Center.
Born on July 12, 1953 in Mount Vernon, Marie was the daughter of Rocco and Carmella (Piacente) Pugliese. On September 23, 1972 at Mount Carmel Church in Mount Vernon, Maria married the love of her life, Willie Basciano, who survives at home.
Maria loved to play slots in Atlantic City and play Candy Crush. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Most of all, she loved cooking for her family and grandchildren. She was the matriarch, always making sure her family spent time together. She was at every sporting event to cheer on her kids and grandkids. Her biggest job was being a Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandmother, but she also had a small at home business making ornate chocolate candies. She battled hardships and multiple diseases, yet she still put her family first. She was extremely strong and fought each step of the way, never giving up.
In addition to her husband, Maria is survived by her children, Dawn Nelson and her husband William, Jennifer Tompkins and her husband Terry, Bill Basciano and his wife Loni, Danielle Basciano and her significant other, Jim Basli; her grandchildren, Samantha, Joseph, Juliana, Benjamin and Lydia; and her great granddaughter, Evelyn Marie. In addition to her parents, Maria was predeceased by her daughter, Mellisa Basciano, in 1982.
