EAST FISHKILL – Maria A. Spallone, 96, an area resident since 1981 and formerly of Yonkers, died peacefully at her home on January 24, 2024.

Born in Capestrano, Italy on September 24, 1927, she was the daughter of Joseph and Letizia (Lerza) Trama. Maria had been employed as a seamstress for Mary Abdoo Bridal Shop in Poughkeepsie for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville.

Maria's home was always filled with warmth and love, incredible smells of great food, a bustling garden, and Italian music. She made the most incredible food from scratch - gnocchi, pasta, polenta, fried zucchini flowers, and pizzelles to name a few.

Maria's love for family came first and foremost. She was the happiest when she had her whole family at her house for Sunday dinners. She'll be remembered for the love and generosity that she bestowed upon her seven grandchildren. Maria attended many of their sports events and played a significant role in each of their lives.

On September 22, 1951 in Montreal, Canada, Maria married Umberto Spallone who predeceased her on May 2, 2006. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph and Lina Spallone, and Esther and Mark Ciovacco; her grandchildren, Joseph Spallone, Christopher Spallone, Laura Ayres, Carl Ciovacco, Paul Ciovacco, Ryan Ciovacco and Thomas Ciovacco; and her seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Gilda Gentile.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 2, from 3-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 3, at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
