Mariel J. Young

Mariel J. Young, a resident of the area for nearly 60 years, passed away on August 4, 2026. She was 77 years old.

Born on May 25, 1949, in Vineland, New Jersey, Mariel was the daughter of the late Franklin and Mariel (Brooks) Slack.

Mariel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy in life was caring for her family. She dedicated herself to raising and supporting her children, always putting their needs before her own. In the 1980s, she was heavily involved with the Autistic Society of Dutchess County, where she generously gave of her time and compassion to support families in the community.

A gifted artist, Mariel expressed her creativity through beautiful chalk drawings and paintings, leaving behind works that reflected both her talent and her kind spirit.

Mariel is survived by her loving sons, Richard Young and his wife, Melissa, and Brian Young; and her cherished grandsons, Matthew Young and Daniel Young.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edgar Young, and her brother, Franklin Slack.
