Mario Castiglia, 70, a resident of Hopewell Junction and previously of the Bronx, died on February 9, 2022 at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Born on December 10, 1951 in Sciara, Sicily, Italy, Mario was the son Mariano and Angela (Di Francesca) Castiglia. He worked as a crane operator for Metro North Railroad for 42 years until his retirement in 2011.
Mario loved gardening especially flowers and vegetables, and spending time on his tractor. He was the Fig Guru who enjoyed making his own wine, cheese and salami.
On June 28, 1986 at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx, Mario married the love of his life, Angela Amato who survives at home. In addition to his wife, Mario is survived by his daughter, Angelica Coglitore and her husband, Carmine; his grandchildren, Matteo and Milana Coglitore; and his sister, Francesca Castiglia. He will be immensely missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mario was predeceased by his parents, his brother Benedetto Castiglia, and his sister Nicasia Castiglia.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 12-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment in the Rosewood Mausoleum at Ferncliff Cemetery.
