Mario Mercado, Jr., 75, a resident of LaGrangeville since 1988 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 25, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on November 22, 1948, he was the son of the late Mario and Clemencia Mercado. Mario proudly served our country in the US Navy as an Engine Room Mechanic aboard the USS Compton during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable service in the Navy, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he proudly continued his service. He later went on to become a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in the Bronx and following his retirement continued to work for The Home Depot and Williams Lumber in Pleasant Valley.

Mario was a man of faith and loved to study the word of God. His other passions included music, good food and time well spent with his family. He always had a curious mind and loved to understand how things worked and spent countless hours working on small scale models and various projects.

On July 20, 1972 in Queens Village, Mario married the love of his life, Carmen Mercado who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Mario A. Mercado, Michelle and Sonny Dhaliwal, Gabriel A. and Elizabeth Mercado, and Jeremy and Renea Mercado; his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Emma, Noah, Olivia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Chloe, Heiden and Alexander; his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Finn and Lyla; his fur babies Lilly, Rocky, Holli and Odin, his siblings, Eddie, Lillian, Aida, Nellie; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Steven Mercado.

Visitation will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Saturday, October 5th from 1 - 4 pm. The United States Naval Honor Guard will present military honors at 4pm.
