Marion J. France, an area resident, previously of Yorktown, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Clifton Park, passed away on August 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.
Marion was born on June 26, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Patrick and Dora (Clearly) Joyce.
Marion graduated from Fontbonne Hall High School in 1955. She attended Miller Secretarial School and upon completion of her degree she started a job at Cone Mills in NYC. It is there that she met the love of her life, David France. Marion and David were married on April 11th, in front of their dear family and friends in St Catherine of Genoa Church in Brooklyn, New York.
Marion proudly raised her family and maintained the household, until returning to work at Key Bank in Clifton Park for nearly 15 years.
In her leisure time, Marion enjoyed many hobbies including Irish history, crocheting, quilting, leading historic tours, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and being a eucharistic minister. Nothing brought her as much joy as time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchild. Marion was affectionately known as "Granny."
Marion leaves behind her daughter Joyce Gillespie and her husband, Thomas; her daughter Michele Dillon and her husband, Mark; her daughter Patricia Horan and her husband, Peter; her grandchildren, Shannon McMullen and her husband, Will, Maura Hilser and her husband, Alexander, Monica Dillon, Meghan Dillon and her husband, Justin Bennet, Matthew Dillon, Emily Horan; and her great grandson, Preston Thomas McMullen.
In addition to her parents and loving husband, Marion was predeceased by her sister, Pauline Healy.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 2pm to 6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at St Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, New York, with burial following at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 540 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow.
