Obituary

Marissa Nicole Staples of both Virginia Beach, VA and Beacon, NY passed away on July 10, 2025 at the age of 48. Marissa was born on January 31, 1977 in Peekskill, NY to Brian and Susan (Wilson) Staples. She graduated from Beacon High School, and attended Dutchess Community College and St. Leo's University. On August 27, 2007, she married Richard Scott Jordan in Virginia Beach.

Marissa proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy for over 18 years and was the recipient of many awards and Naval Achievement medals including "Safe for Flight," National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. She was the featured keynote speaker for Philipstown Veterans Honor Banner Program. Before her retirement, Marissa was an Aviation Maintenance Administrator for VFA-37 in Oceana, VA.

In her free time, Marissa enjoyed going to the beach, traveling, and cooking for friends and family, as well as decorating for the holidays. She was known for her collection of handbags and flip-flops. She loved listening to music and singing karaoke. Sunflowers were her favorite flower. Her pugs were very special to her.

In addition to her husband Richard, Marissa is survived by her son Jayden Neff of Virginia Beach, VA who she always lovingly referred to as her greatest accomplishment; her parents Brian and Susan Staples of Beacon, NY; her brother Ayren Staples and his wife Alison of Wappingers Falls, NY; her brother Alex Staples and his wife Gwen of Hyde Park, NY; her grandmother Clara Staples of Fishkill, NY; and her pug Magnus. She is also survived by her uncles and aunts: Bob and Carol Wilson of Fishkill, NY; Ron and Michele Brewer/Wilson of Jupiter, FL; and Chris and Nicole Tolman of York, PA; as well as her nieces and nephews: Haley, Lillian, Penelope, Trent, Evan and Rylie; and many cousins as well as an extensive military family.

She was predeceased by her grandfather Edward Staples; her grandfather Walter Wilson; her grandmother Nicole Wilson; and her cousin Edward Morton.

The family would like to extend special thanks to VA Castle Point staff, as well as the staff at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx for the compassionate and professional care they rendered to Marissa and her family.
