Mark L. Johnson, 84, a longtime resident of East Fishkill, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born in India on December 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Reverend John and Edna Childs Johnson. On September 18, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, he married Charlotte Mathews. Mrs. Johnson survives at home in the house he built.
Mark traveled from India to the U.S. at the age of 14. He graduated from Roberts Junior College and proudly served our country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He was a manager for IBM in the crystal growth engineering field in East Fishkill until his retirement in 1992. Mark was a master craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, beekeeping, and photography. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Specimens of his birds are on exhibit in the Museum of Natural History. Mark had a beautiful spirit and voice with an infectious smile, and loved to whistle. Mark was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church.
In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by his children, Wendy Stimpson and her husband, Bruce, of Pleasant Valley, Mark Johnson and his wife, Maryanne, of LaGrange, Lori Johnson of Poughkeepsie, and Sheri DeGroodt and her husband, John, of Pleasant Valley, his brothers, Richard Jonsson of Virginia, Raymond Johnson of Montana, and Douglas Johnson of Virginia; and his 6 grandchildren, Curtis, Eric, Mark, Sarah, Karissa, and Danielle. He was predeceased by his sister, Rachel Gaston, of Ulster Park.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 10 am – 12 pm at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 12 pm at the Hopewell Reformed Church.
