FISHKILL – Martin "Ating" S. Magalona, a resident of Fishkill, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 90.
Son of the late Manuel A. and Placida (Sillo) Magalona, he was born in Santa Barbara, Iloilo, Philippines, on June 18, 1930. For 24 years, he worked as a salesman for Marcelo Rubber Company in Malabon, Philippines, retiring in 1991.
Martin emigrated to the United States in 1996 and proudly became a U.S. Citizen in 2001. He enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening and watching baseball games, and was a fan of the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres.
On December 29, 1958, he married Josefina Mendez in Malabon, Philippines. Josefina survives at home in Fishkill.
Additional survivors include his daughters, Cecilia M. De Vera & her husband Benjamin of Port Chester, Cynthia M. Magalona of Fishkill, and Caroline M. Magalona; his sister, Virginia M. Parayno & her husband Virgilio of San Diego, CA; and many other loving relatives & friends.
Martin was predeceased by his parents as well as two brothers, Cesario and Justino Magalona.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 28 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Please note: All guests must practice safety precautions in accordance with CDC guidelines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. For those who cannot attend the Funeral Mass, a livestream can be viewed on the funeral home's website.
