Mary Chenarides, a resident of Fishkill, New York since 1991, formerly of Hartsdale, New York, passed away on Tuesday, April 28th, 2015 at her home in Fishkill. Daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Kouvarides) Tsontarides, she was born in the Bronx on September 22nd, 1927. On October 19th, 1947, she married Christi J. Chenarides at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New York City. She was predeceased by her husband on November 12, 2011.
Mary was previously employed by IBM as a Computer Operator, having worked at the company's locations in both White Plains and Armonk, New York. She retired in 1992.
She was also a member of Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie for many years and belonged to the Ladies Philoptochos Society where she dedicated countless hours to helping the poor and needy in the community. Mary enjoyed many hobbies, and will be remembered for her abilities as a gourmet cook and interior decorator. She made every effort to remain in contact with relatives and friends who did not live near her. But despite living in our age of technology, she valued the personal touch of a hand-written letter.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Vicki Chenarides of Fishkill, and John and Debra Chenarides of Pittsburgh, PA; her grandchildren, Lauren Chenarides of State College, PA; Dean Chenarides II of New York City; Kalin Chenarides of Fishkill; and, Kristi Chenarides of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Papaflorates and her husband Gregory of Boca Raton, FL and her many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1st, 2015 at The Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York with Rev. Gregory S. Pastis officiating. Interment will follow at The Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, New York.
