Mary Joan Fiorio, 88, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Putnam Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Brooklyn on September 16, 1926, she was the daughter of James and Josephine McGuire McCann.
She attended Pratt Institute for drawing and had a career in window display design for Staple Smith Arts and Design Company, designing windows for Macy's and many other New York City Department stores. After raising her children, she worked for Peekskill Hospital as a Laboratory Courier for 18 years. She loved music, singing and spending time with her entire family.
On July 30, 1949 in Brooklyn, Mary Joan married Ralph Fiorio who survives at home. She is also survived by her seven children and their spouses, Deacon James and Mary Beth Fiorio of Poughkeepsie, Brian Fiorio of New Windsor, Ralph and Karen Fiorio of Highland, Marianne Braccini of Cape Coral, FL, Regina and Bill Neff of Hopewell Junction, Dan and Maggie Fiorio of Lewes, DE, and Eileen and Doug Greene of Bethel, CT; her grandchildren, Marc Fiorio, Allison Chimera, Rob Fiorio, Patricia Williams, Kristen Neff, Daniel Fiorio Jr., Paul Neff, Justin Greene, Dana Fiorio and Megan Greene; and her great-grandchildren, Ronan Chimera, Jake Williams and Brynn Fiorio.
Mary Joan children's ages range from 64-48. We all owe our love for life and family to our mother, who taught us the importance of family comes first, and despite life's curve balls, if you love and respect your family everything has a way of falling into place. She raised 7 wonderful children all with their own success stories, their own families and passing down from generation to generation, her unconditional love and her dedication to family and togetherness.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday February 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
