LAGRANGEVILLE – Mary C. Gellatly, 99, an area resident since 1984, passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2023. She previously lived in Milford, CT.
Born in Brooklyn on February 3, 1924, Mary was the daughter of the late Nemecio and Despina (Alexandrau) Barje. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Gellatly in 1983.
She was an active member of Grace Bible Church where she served as a Deacon and was an organist. As an accomplished musician, she sang at the White House for President Ronald Reagan as part of the Yale University Choir and also performed at Steinway Hall in New York City. Mary was also an artist who loved drawing.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Alexander and Betsy Gellatly of LaGrangeville and Denise and Jim Keating of Essex Junction, VT; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Gellatly; her grandchildren, Peter, Christine, Sky, Tara, Alexandra, Kirstin, Whitney, and Hillary; her 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was also predeceased by her son, Peter O. Gellatly; and her brother, Alexander Barje.
Visitation will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY on Sunday, October 15th from 12 – 2 pm followed by a funeral service at 2pm. On Monday, October 16th, family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9 am to follow in procession to Oak Grove Cemetery in West Haven, CT.
