POUGHKEEPSIE – Mary E. Greene, 87, a longtime Dutchess County resident, passed away on July 8, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Mary was the daughter of the late Paul and Madeline Gehrdes. On May 28, 1949 in Brooklyn, Mary married Kenneth F. Greene who predeceased her in 1999 after 49 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Catherine and Rich Bala of LaGrangeville, Kevin and Anita Greene of Bullhead City, AZ, and Theresa and Donald Gilman of Culpeper, VA; her grandchildren, Tracy Gilman, Rachel Bala, Stacey Bala, and Christopher Gilman and his wife Nattaporn Lohitharn; her sisters, Loretta Murray and her husband Thomas of FL and Josephine Hoey of NY; her sister-in-law, Cecile (Seal) Gehrdes of AL; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Lawrence T. Greene in 1969 and her brother, Robert Gehrdes in 2016.

Mary enjoyed folk art painting and spending time with her family and dear friends. Most of all she loved being a grandma, and was dedicated to her family.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 11 from 2-5:00pm and Tuesday, July 12 from 10-11:00am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 11:00am at the funeral home.
