Obituary

Mary (Marie) Halliday, 92, died peacefully on September 24, 2022 at the Lutheran Care Center. A previous resident of the Bronx and Wappingers Falls, she had also lived in Saratoga for 12 years.

She was born on April 13, 1930 to Gerard and Sarah (DeBella) Lotito in New York City. Mary met her husband, Thomas, when they were in the 6th grade. They graduated together and were planning to go to an aviation school. However, Thomas decided to go with his friends to Samuel Gompers Vocational School. Mary went on to James Monroe High School in the Bronx. After she graduated, she had numerous vocationals. She started out as a biller, office worker, waitress, bookkeeper, model, and finally became involved in banking, which was her forte. She worked for numerous banks as a typist elevating herself to credit manager for a short period of time worked in the Wall Street District. Mary remained in banking for a period of 38 years. She belonged to the Lioness Club and was a Notary Public. She started as a teller when she came into this area and went to night school where she earned many college credits. She elevated from being a teller, secretary, and assistant casher. She wrote a book on all banking procedures.

Mary married Thomas in 1948 at St. Helena Church in the Bronx. They had 3 children and in 1968, they moved from their Bronx apartment and purchased a home in Rockingham Farms, Wappingers Falls where they remained for 20 years. They sold their home and moved into an apartment in Beacon while their home was being built in the Saratoga Springs area. In 1994, they moved from their Beacon apartment to their new home in a little town called Hadley, 11 miles from the Saratoga Springs area. They remained there for 12 years moving back to this area in 2006 due to health reasons.

Mary's husband predeceased her on July 27, 2009 and he was the love of her life. They were married for 61 years. She leaves behind her beloved children, Susan Collins and her husband Edward of Poughkeepsie, Thomas Halliday, Jr. and his wife Linda of Pleasant Valley, and John Halliday and his wife Julie of Highland; her grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Jessica, Monet, Norel, Adam, Jason, and Alyssa; and her great-grandchildren, Christian, Matthew, Gianna, Michael Jr., Allison, and Easton.
Donations may be in Mary's memory to Hudson Valley Hospice.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
