Mary Catherine Hargraves went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 7,
2022. She was surrounded by her family who she loved dearly. Mary Kay, the name she
was known by, was fifty - seven years old at the time of her death. She was the second
youngest of eight children of Richard and Florence Hargraves. Mary Kay was a twin.
Her brother Michael and her were as close as twins can be. They helped each other
throughout every stage of life.
All her life she had suffered with side effects of juvenile diabetes. Her poor health did
not deter her from enjoying life. She will be remembered as a fun loving Gorton
cheerleader and team mascot. She was also a well loved preschool teacher in
Yonkers and then later in Wappingers Falls. Mary Kay also served for many years as a
Sunday School teacher at Calvary Chapel of the Hudson Valley. Though her students
are no longer children they remember her as a gifted Bible teacher who greatly
influenced their lives.
Mary Kay loved God with all her heart which was evident to all who knew her. Her
favorite Bible verse was "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you
with unfailing kindness (Jeremiah 31:3). She displayed this love to everyone she met.
Mary Kay spent many days at dialysis where she always had encouraging words for the
people she met and made many friends there.
Mary Kay will be remembered as a loving sister, aunt, friend, and servant of God. She
will be significantly missed by her siblings, nieces,nephews, and great nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 18 at five o'clock at Calvary
Chapel of the Hudson Valley at 36 Firemen's Way, Poughkeepsie, New York.
