Mary Hilda Hearn, a Dutchess County resident since 2003, formerly of Schenectady and Brooklyn, died at the Wingate at Dutchess on Tuesday, January 5, 2014. She was 93.
She was born in Newfoundland, Canada on October 2, 1921. In 1947, she married Samuel Hearn in Brooklyn. Samuel died in 1980. For 27 years, Mary worked as a nursing assistant at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed going to dances, card parties, and Bingo. Above all, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1993, Mary married Samuel's brother, Jeremiah J. Hearn, who predeceased her in March of 2014. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Nolan and her husband Michael of Carolina Beach, NC; her grandsons, Michael Nolan and his wife Mary of Raleigh, NC, Sean Nolan of Manhattan, and Daniel Nolan of Baltimore, MD; her great-grandchildren, Connor and Sophia Nolan; her sister-in-law, Annie Power of Bay Bulls, Newfoundland; and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada. She was also predeceased by her son, Samuel Hearn in 2000; her brother, Austin Power and her sister, Marcella Moakler.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 9:00-10:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
