Mary Ellen Mekeland, 103, a resident of Pawling and Carmel, died on October 22, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Coatesville, PA on December 22, 1914, she was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Gare) Sheridan. Mary had worked in sales for many years, most recently at Arms Acres in Carmel. She attended Mass at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel and St. John's Church in Pawling. She enjoyed participating in the Pawling Seniors and the Office for the Aging's activities. She also liked knitting, baking, cooking, and playing Bingo and cards; however, more than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Emil Lars Mekeland; and her brothers, John and Henry Hughes. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Joseph Colombo; her grandchildren, Richard Scott Hake, Christine Hake, and Ryan Hake; her great-grandchildren, Cameron and Kiera Tucci; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11:30am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Raymond Hill Cemetery.
