Mary J. Shettler, a Wappingers Falls resident since 1956 and formerly of East Kingston, died peacefully on Friday, January 27th at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 86.
Born on December 20, 1925 in East Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mollie Aiello Carpino. On July 13, 1956, she married Donald J. Shettler at The First Lutheran Church of Poughkeepsie. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999.
Mary was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fishkill and former member of The First Lutheran Church of Poughkeepsie. She was a life member of the Chelsea Yacht Club and belonged to the Red Hat Society as well.
She is survived by her son, Thomas J. Shettler and his wife Julian of Connecticut; her daughter, Donna Hoffman and her husband Steven of Connecticut; her grandchildren, Savanna Shettler and Christian, Ethan & Collin Hoffman; also many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to her husband, Mary was also predeceased in death by her sister, Rose LaRocca in 2003 and brother, Ralph Carpino in 1996.
Calling hours will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 30th at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1400 Route 52, Fishkill. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. immediately following calling hours with Rev. John Young officiating. Interment at Kensico Cemetery will be private.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the devotion, care and compassion given to Mary by the doctors, nurses and staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
