NEWTOWN, CT - Mary Gemma Simone, 82, a resident of Newtown, CT and formerly of Cary and Raleigh, NC and Poughkeepsie, NY, died at her home on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

Born in Teaneck, NJ, she was the daughter of the late George Paul and Lora Welch Ricco. Gemma was employed as a Registered Nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Neurological Institute in Manhattan.

On January 7, 1956 in the Bronx, Gemma married Frank A. Simone. Dr. Simone survives at home. She is also survived by her daughters and their husbands: Paula and Ralph Serafinowicz of Sturbridge, MA, Marisa and Jack Hart of Garner, NC, Ellen and Christopher Hallgren of Hopewell Jct., NY; her son, Thomas Simone of Poughkeepsie, NY; her grandchildren, Lora and Michael Serafinowicz, Lisa and Daniel Hart, Michelle and Anthony Simone, John Hallgren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct., NY. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. followed by interment in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
