Mason Thomas Gilbert was born May 1, 1997 in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Dutchess County New York.
Mason attended Beekman Elementary, Union Vale Middle and Arlington High schools. He began his college career at Southampton University in Southampton, England and completed his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York. At the time of his death, he was working on his Master's degree dissertation at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford England. Mason was a bright, lifelong learner.
Mason was baptised at Hopewell Reformed Church. He participated in many mission trips both local and international, played bass guitar in the youth worship band, and played keyboard in the Sunday morning worship band. Mason knew he was a child of God.
Mason's life was brief but full. He was passionate about soccer and played throughout his life and was also a referee. He loved to travel and learned to speak French, Spanish and Japanese to better enjoy people and places. Mason was a kind-hearted, adventurous young man.
Mason worked as a delivery driver, a line cook and a bus driver. Ultimately his passion was motor sports and he pursued a career in the Formula One racing circuit. Mason was a conscientious worker.
Mason struggled with anxiety and depression for over a decade before he decided he could not continue the fight. He departed this life on September 19, 2025 in C. S. Lewis Nature Reserve in Oxford, England. He leaves his parents Shireen and Percy Gilbert, his sister and brother-in-law Andrea "Shelly" and Nathan Eckman, his nephew Benjamin, his maternal grandmother Mary Dickerson, his girlfriend Melanie Piacente, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Mason was dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mason's name to NAMIMidHudson .org .
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 11am at Hopewell Reformed Church,143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533.
