Matteo Flotta, 65, a ten year resident of Fishkill and formerly of Yorktown and Central Valley, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
Born on May 1, 1945 in Altavilla, Province of Avellino, Italy, he was the son of Erminia Lepore Flotta of Yorktown and the late Francesco Flotta. He was employed as a Mechanical Engineer for IBM at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown for 28 years until his retirement in 2007. During his years with IBM, he was the recipient of many patents and awards and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Matt was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill and was an avid golfer.
On September 8, 2001 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Matt married Patricia Spano who survives at home. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, E. Maria Flotta of Manhattan and Matthew Flotta and his wife Tara of Medway, MA; his grandchildren, Sophia, Sienna and Nolan Flotta; his brother, Antonio Flotta and his wife Louisa of Yorktown; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
