Matthew Robert Byer, 26, a lifelong area resident, died on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Peekskill on December 29, 1987, he was the son of Marc Byer and Barbara Casson. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and an avid sports player of soccer, baseball and lacrosse. He shared his love of the Yankees with his grandmother, Mildred. He loved to play mini-golf with his grandfather, Bob.

Matthew is survived by his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Ernest Doetsch of Pine Bush; his father, Marc Byer of Wappingers Falls; his sister, Nicole Rose Byer of Pine Bush; his grandparents, Mildred Casson of Pine Bush, Richard and Hilda Byer of Yonkers; his aunt, Robin Levine; and cousins, Jason Smith, Daniel Smith and Rachel Smith.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 9:30-11:30am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82,Hopewell Junction. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
