Obituary

Matte L Wallace, 86, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 2014, and previously of South Lake Tahoe and San Diego, California, fell asleep in death on Monday, May 31, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Clinton, Oklahoma on November 23, 1934, Mattie was the daughter of Doc and Irene Murphy. On June 4, 1951, in Tacoma, Washington, Mattie married the love of her life, Edward Wallace, who preceded her in death on January 21, 2007.

Mattie is survived by her children Rene Woods and her husband Tyrone of Los Angeles, California, Vicki Wallace of San Marcos, California, and Karen Girven and her husband Dexter of Hopewell Junction. Her siblings Ella Jean Edwards, Hura Doc Murphy, James R Murphy, Stanley W Murphy, and Arthur K Murphy. Her 16 grandchildren, Deondra Johnson, Sheri, Cori, Amena, Dennis and Heather Hamilton, Andre and Aaron Mellion, Cerone and Krista Woods, Mark and Ena Brown, Kevin Ghee and Dexter Girven Jr, Terry and Timothy Wallace, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Edward Terry Wallace, and her 3 grandchildren Izayah Amir Hamilton, Jeffrey Jason Brown and Torchea Le Ann Wallace, and her siblings Cleta Mae Cross and Phillip R Murphy.

Mattie loved travel and nature, that is what led her to move to beautiful Lake Tahoe. She was an avid reader; her favorite author was Barbara Taylor Bradford. She also loved poetry. She was a great dancer and loved dancing with her husband. Their last dance was during a trip to Nassau, Bahamas. They truly enjoyed themselves, they danced and sang at the piano. They made a great pair. She also loved boating and fishing, she liked to enjoy herself with family and friends, she also loved her husband's home cooked meals.

She was loved and always taught her children and grandchildren to love and honor Jehovah God. She was a faithful servant of Jehovah and was baptized in 1963, she shared her knowledge and wisdom with thousands of people going door to door and house to house. She started studying the Bible 64 years ago. She was in the pioneer service for 42 years, even in the final days and hours of her life, she continued to spread the good news of Jehovah's kingdom. She was a very happy and positive person and was beautiful in every way.
