WAPPINGERS FALLS – Maureen D. Connolly, 74, an area resident since 1976 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on August 16, 2021 following a long illness at ArchCare at Ferncliff.
Born in the Bronx on July 27, 1947, she was the daughter of Howard and Alice (McDonagh) Doherty.
On November 15, 1969, Maureen married Francis Connolly, who survives at home. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Heather and Kevin Granger, and Frank and Holly Connolly; her grandchildren, Fiona, Shepard and Lachlan; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Alan Doherty.
Maureen graduated from Aquinas High School in the Bronx in 1965. Although she always wanted to be a nurse, she started her banking career as a Page at Citibank in New York City straight out of high school, following her father's death to help support her family. She went on to become an executive secretary. She started her family in 1971 and returned to the workforce in 1975 as a Senior Clerk-Typist at First Federal Savings and Loan in New York City. After moving to Dutchess County, she became a Mortgage Processor for InterCounty Mortgage where she later was promoted to Vice President. In 1987, Maureen became one of the founding members and President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Mid-Hudson Valley. In the early 1990s, she retired as Vice President of Mid-Hudson Savings Bank in Fishkill. She was one of only two women to hold the position of Vice President of a bank in the tri-state area at that time.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
