LAGRANGE - Maureen Ann Sabia Houston, 54, an area resident since 1969, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2016 in the comfort of her home.
Born in Yonkers on October 2, 1962, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Dolores (Fitzgerald) Sabia. Maureen attended Arlington High School, graduating with the Class of 1980. Maureen worked as a paralegal at Gellert, Klein & MacLeod, LLC in Poughkeepsie.
From a young age, Maureen was full of life and full of spunk. She loved nothing more than to create libraries of family recipes and cook them with her daughters. She showed that very same passion in her dedication to her profession; overachieving and going above and beyond her call of duty each and every day. Maureen believed that no one worked harder than her late father and truly proved to inherit his unparalleled work ethic throughout her entire 26-year career, growing with the same company. She worked with diligence and care as she loved her career and always put the needs of her clients first. Maureen lived her life full of kindness, integrity and with a dedication to the community she grew up in. She had a loving and giving nature, never turning away from a chance to care for someone in their time of need. Nothing proves true this beautiful quality better than Maureen's love for animals. Throughout her life, she adopted and nurtured over a dozen stray animals and dedicated herself to giving them the best life possible.
Maureen poured her soul into her family, friends and all of her loved ones. She especially loved to laugh, travel and embark on any adventure with her two loving daughters. The world is not as bright of a place without her. Her warmth and compassion has touched all those who knew her and she will be dearly missed. All Maureen envisioned was for peace, love, and happiness for the world around her. When she's not spending time with her loved ones, she enjoys reading, gardening, bowling, painting, camping, cooking, and crocheting. With everything she did, she embodied her spunky, fun, and most of all loving personality to spread to the world around her.
Maureen was an active donor in countless charities throughout her life including the American Heart Association; American Cancer Society; Battered Women's Support Services; St. Jude; Locks of Love; Wildlife Conservation Society; and many animal rescue associations.
Maureen is survived by her daughters, Jessica Houston, 26, and her fiancé Ralph Niggl, 31, of Nashville, TN and Megan Houston, 22, of Poughkeepsie; her brothers and their spouses, Anthony and Anne Sabia of Wappingers Falls and Kenneth and Sally Sabia of Wappingers Falls; her 6 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
