Melissa Lee Armstrong, a lifelong Newburgh resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 44.
She was born in Newburgh on March 26, 1977 and attended local schools. Melissa attended Best Temple Church where she was a choir member. On occasion, she enjoyed visiting The Cathedral at House of Refuge. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as the comforting sounds of gospel melodies. A few favorite gospel artists include Kim Burrel, Commissioned, Take 6, Deitrick Haddon and Dottie Peeple.
Melissa is survived by her daughter, Jada Armstrong & her partner James Allen; her grandson, James Allen, Jr.; her mother, Dorothy Marshall & her husband Albert; her siblings, Althea Williams (Clarence), Marcella Washington (Christopher), Yolanda Jung (Marcel), Ja'Lessa Marshall, and James Armstrong; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her close friends, Carlton B., Kim-Tasha R., Nathaniel B. and Clarence W.
She was predeceased by her father, James Rayford Armstrong; her siblings, James "Shoutin' John" Armstrong, Jr., Ma'Lessa Marshall, and Morticia Armstrong; her grandparents, Jesse James, Louise Morris, and Lucressie Newkirk; her aunts, Flora-Mae Armwood, Charlie Williams and Ethel Lofton; and her uncles, Oscar Lee Armstrong Sr, Willie James Newkirk, Jimmy Armstrong, Jerry, Jimmy and Alfred Williams.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, February 10 at the Cathedral at Holy Trinity Church of Unity, 44 Chambers Street, Newburgh, NY. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. immediately following the visitation with Bishop John Borden officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, NY.
