Michael Altieri, 96, a resident of Dutchess County for 30 years and formerly of the Bronx, died on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in New York City on August 29, 1913, he was the son of Joseph and Margaret DeRosa Altieri. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was employed by United Parcel in Manhattan and then by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier until his retirement. Michael attended St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, was a member of the Beekman Seniors and the VFW and he enjoyed bowling.
On June 14, 1942 at St. Francis of Rome Church in the Bronx, Michael married Caroline Delasantra who died on September 28, 2003. He is survived by his children, Joseph Altieri and his wife, Mary Jeanne of Poughquag, Theresa DeCaro and her husband, Don of Manahawkin, NJ and John Altieri and his wife, Jan of Boise, ID; his sisters, Mary Longi of FL and Margaret Lopresti of NJ; his grandchildren, Thomas and Teresa DeCaro, Tara and Jesse Pearce, Michael and Nicole Altieri, Robert DeCaro, Joseph and Sheri Altieri and Jonathan Altieri; and his great-grandchildren, Emmi and Ally Pearce and Zachary Altieri.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx with military honors.
