Michael G. Barker, 59, a resident of Dutchess County for over 45 years, unexpectedly passed away on December 3, 2023.
Michael was born in Yonkers, NY on May 18, 1964. He spent his younger years in Putnam Lake, NY and moved to Dutchess County in 1978. He was a well-respected Certified Arborist who was employed by Red Cedar Tree Service for over 30 years, then with SavATree in Wappingers Falls since 2019.
An avid golfer, Michael was also a very enthusiastic fan of the NY Mets and the NY Jets. He also enjoyed playing Bocce and was a diehard Bruce Springsteen fan. He was a member of the Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce and BNI Poughkeepsie 3000 Chapter.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelsey Barker; his mother, Eileen Barker; his longtime partner, Kelly Repinz and her daughter, Rachel Repinz; his siblings, Brian Barker and his wife Karen, Tricia Watt, and Brian Callahan and his partner Sylvia DelSalto; his aunt and Godmother, Marianne Kelleher and her husband Brian; his aunt Marie Crosson; his lifelong best friend, who was like another brother, Peter Carey and the entire Carey family; the mother of his daughter, Lisa Barker; his dogs, Colby and Gigi; many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews; and countless friends.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Gerald Barker; his nephew, Michael Oremus; and his brother-in-law, Bruce Oremus.
Michael, affectionately known as Barney by many, had the wonderful ability to make forever friends in a matter of moments. Michael embraced life to the fullest and that passion was infectious, passing on to everyone he met.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 8th from 4 – 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
