Michael Paul Bergmann, a lifelong resident of Fishkill, died at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh on Sunday, July 7, 2013 following a six month battle with brain cancer. He was 66.
He was born in Poughkeepsie on November 19, 1946. He graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology and later received his Professional Engineer License from New York State. In 2010, Michael retired from the New York State Department of Transportation, where he was a Highway Engineer for over 15 years. He had formerly worked for the Dutchess County Department of Public Works and Manfredi Construction.
Michael's primary passion was sailing. He participated in many race events and was a long time member of the Chelsea Yacht Club in Wappinger.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley (Baumbusch) Bergmann of Fishkill; his sister, Kate Bergmann & her husband Robert MacMillan of Downington, PA; and many other loving relatives & friends.
Michael was predeceased by his father Eric A. Bergmann in 1991.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 Main Street, Fishkill. His remains will later be entombed at the church's columbarium.
