Michael
Cioppa
November 20, 1932 – November 22, 2025
Michael V. Cioppa passed away on November 22, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 93 years old.
Born in Bellona, Italy, on November 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Ernesto and Nicolina (Liguori) Cioppa. He immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1947 and became a United States citizen in 1955. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.
On August 5, 1962, he married the one true love of his life, Theresa (Iadicicco), who survives at home.
For over 25 years, Michael worked on the Brooklyn docks as a longshoreman for Refined Sugar and Domino Sugar. A devout Catholic, he was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill, NY. He was also a dedicated member of the Sons of Italy - Joe DiMaggio Lodge in Wappingers Falls, NY, and the San Silverio Shrine in Dover Plains, NY.
Michael enjoyed a life rich with tradition and simple pleasures. He loved playing bocce and spent countless days fishing, crabbing, and clamming and enjoying nature with his paesano's and his beloved wife. He and Theresa loved to travel-especially back home to Italy-and he never passed up the chance to dance.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; his children, Ernesto (Elinor), Ciro (Jean), and MaryAnn Barone; and his beloved grandchildren: Angela (Chris), Lisa (Dan), Cynthia (Gary), Samantha (Luigi), James, Deanna (Ryan), Matthew (Srijata), Emily Cioppa, and Michael (Renee Lynn), Joseph (Siya), and Julianna Barone. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Mason, Jameson, Luca, Kiran, and Rohan, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Adriana Cioppa.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Vincent and his wife Angelina Cioppa, and Anthony Cioppa, as well as his son-in-law, Mark Barone.
Michael will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his pride in the US, and the joy he found in life's simplest moments. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the memories he leaves behind will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
