Michael
Duke
December 11, 1953 – December 9, 2024
MILLBROOK - Michael L. Duke, 70, died on December 9, 2024 after a long fought illness stemming from the 9/11 WTC attacks. He was a lifelong area resident.
Born in Manhattan on December 11, 1953, Michael was the son of the late Lee and Roberta (Roulhac) Duke. He attended Millbrook High School where he was one of their star football players. He proudly served in the US Air Force where he received numerous accolades for his bravery and heroism.
Michael had an accomplished 25-year career in law enforcement. He started as a police officer for the Town of East Fishkill. He was then employed by the NYS Department of Corrections and was part of the Joint Task Force with the New York State Police. During his career he again received many commendations for his unwavering commitment to protecting the lives of others. When the terror attacks on September 11, 2001 occurred, he was one of many first responders. Michael spent several months assisting in the rescue efforts. During his 25 year career Michael worked his way up to Senior Investigator and retired in 2006.
Michael was extremely private, but he loved life. He was always known for being very athletic. He found enjoyment and peace in fishing and cooking and taking pride in the appearance of his home. More than anything, he was proud of his daughter, Talia Duke, and his two grandchildren, Sierra and Nolan. He loved them more than anything and found them to be his greatest accomplishments. He will be dearly missed and always remembered as the hero and loving father and grandfather he was.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 12th from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13th at 10 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Nine Partners Cemetery in Millbrook with military honors.
