Michael
Fitzgerald
March 25, 1966 – November 27, 2024
Michael Thomas Fitzgerald, 58, a resident of Fishkill since 2002 and formerly of Yonkers, died on November 27, 2024 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Yonkers on March 25, 1966, he was the son of James Fitzgerald and the late Carol (Divi) Fitzgerald. Michael proudly served our country in the US Army and was employed as a firefighter with the City of White Plains for 26 years.
On April 23, 1993 in Yonkers, Michael married Ann Strazzula who survives at home. Michael adored his Annie. Together since 15 and going to the prom, they did everything side by side and have enjoyed going to the movies, attending concerts, vacationing, and searching for "deals" at all the flea markets.
In addition to his wife and father, he is also survived by his daughters, Amanda and Samantha; his siblings and their spouses, Deborah and John Cuoco, and James and Alexandra Fitzgerald; and seven nieces and three nephews. Michael shared a special bond with his first nephew, Matthew, who loved to talk everyday about their bad sports teams and firefighting.
Mike was an avid sports fan who always supported his New York teams - the Mets, Islanders, Giants and Knicks. He shared his love of sports with his children, taking them to games and showing them how to swing a bat. Playing poker was his favorite hobby, traveling to Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, or Resorts World to hopefully be screaming "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner".
Michael was his girls' biggest supporter whether on the field, on a court, or in the classroom. He had the honor of coaching their softball teams and was so proud to see them graduate and receive a doctoral and masters degree. He took his daughters everywhere and anywhere they wanted to go and had the pleasure of taking his Sammi across the country to see Mount Rushmore and the mountains of Montana. To his daughters, he was not just "dad" but also chauffeur, financial advisor, comedic relief, and always the person to ask if you wanted something you thought mom might say no to (including dying your hair).
Michael's personality was larger than life, always the loudest person in the room. He loved to spend time with family and friends. His friend group stayed the same throughout his life, always telling wild stories about the time spent with them. Mike would talk to anyone, having chats with old ladies at every grocery store, always on a first name basis.
Mike was an animal lover and leaves behind his only "son", Smushy. Mike and Smushy went on walks together, watched the Price is Right and Let's Make A Deal, and cuddled each night.
Michael was a very special person to many, he will always be everyone's protector - the best husband, father, big brother, uncle, and friend.
