Michael A. Galdiero, Sr., 91, a resident of Dutchess County since 1994 and formerly of Florida, Yorktown Heights and the Bronx, died on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center.
Born in the Bronx on April 10, 1920, he was the son of Vincent and Constance Fugaro Galdiero. He proudly served our country in the US Army during World War II and was employed as a Diesel Mechanic for Mack Truck Company in Long Island City until his retirement in 1982. He had also worked for Yonkers Transit. Michael was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. He was a volunteer fireman and life member of the Yorktown Fire Department and a life member of the Firemen’s Benevolent Association. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus #1646 and a 4th degree member of the Wappingers Assembly. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1898 in Pompano Beach, FL; Joe DiMaggio Lodge #2248, Sons of Italy in Hopewell Junction; Disabled American Veterans #144 in Castle Point; and American Legion Post #203 in Beacon.
On September 14, 1941 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in the Bronx, Michael married Theresa DiGiovanni who predeceased him on October 25, 1992. He is survived by his daughter, Dolores Galdiero Heckert and her husband Kurt of Laurinburg, NC, Richard M. Galdiero and his wife Laura of Stormville and Michael A. Galdiero Jr. and his wife Nora of White Lake, Michigan; his sister, Tina Bentiporto of Scarsdale; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Galdiero in 2010.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Columba, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley with military honors.
