LAGRANGEVILLE - Michael Garan, 45, an area resident since 1971 and formerly of Yonkers, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Yonkers on November 16, 1968, he was the son of Joseph and Rita Rubeo Garan. Mike was an ELA and Social Studies Teacher at the Arlington Middle School. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook, and played the bass guitar with his band, 3 Up 3 Down. He enjoyed riding his Harley, sailing and scuba diving but more than anything, he loved his children. Madison Rose and Michael Anthony were his life, and he never missed a baseball, lacrosse or volleyball game, or horse riding lessons.
On June 25, 1999 in Tarrytown, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Janine Iula who survives at home. In addition to his wife, parents and children, Mike is survived by his sisters, Lori Ann Polidoro and her husband Val of Ossining, Patricia Higham and her husband John of LaGrangeville, Diane Barry of Ossining and Jennifer Guerriero and her husband Joseph of Alexandria, VA; his brother, Joseph Garan of Yonkers; and 21 nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11am at St. Joseph's Church, 15 North Avenue, Millbrook.
