FISHKILL – Michael Griffin, a Fishkill resident since 1992, formerly of Yorktown Heights and Ireland, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at White Plains Hospital. He was 88.

Son of the late Thomas and Esther (O'Connor) Griffin, he was born in County Tipperary, Ireland on December 5, 1933. In 1955, Michael emigrated to the United States. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until being honorably discharged.

He worked in the Maintenance Department for the Manhattan and Bronx Service Transit Operating Authority, retiring in 1984. Michael's hobbies included singing and crossword puzzles. A co-founder of the WestPut Gaels Football Club, he was a sports enthusiast who took great interest in baseball and football. He was also an avid fan of Tipperary County's hurling team.

Michael was a longtime active member of the Irish-American Club in Yorktown Heights and was also a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.

On May 23, 1964, he married Mary Higgins at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in the Bronx. After 50 years of marriage, Mary predeceased Michael on July 24, 2014.

Survivors include his sons and their wives, Michael and Anne Griffin of Thornwood, Patrick and Pam Griffin of Dundee, IL, and Brendan and Sandie Griffin of Beacon; his grandchildren, Michael, Grace, Riley, Kit, Maggie, Libby, Della, Shane, and McKenna; three siblings, Thomas Griffin, Pauline Scott, and Liam Griffin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Michael was also predeceased by five siblings, Patrick Griffin, Betty Walsh, James Griffin, John Griffin, and Edward Griffin.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 3 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne.
