FISHKILL –Michael De Lorenzo, M.D., 80, an area resident since 1963, died on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Wingate at Dutchess.
Born in Brooklyn on June 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Pechillo) De Lorenzo. On July 9, 1976 in Brooklyn, he married Patricia Coon. His beloved wife predeceased him on September 26, 1996.
Dr. De Lorenzo attended NYU and Brooklyn College from 1948-1953 and the University of Bologna Medical School from 1954-1959. He
was an Intern at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital from 1959-1961 and served his residency at the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, OH from 1961-1963. He practiced at the Mid-Hudson Medical Group in Fishkill from 1963-1992. He was the Chief of Pediatrics at Vassar Brothers Medical Center from 1979-1983. His affiliations included: AMA, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Mid-Hudson Pediatrics Society. After his retirement, he moved to Hilton Head, SC for 8 years, where he was involved in the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic.
He is survived by his daughters, Deidre M. Lynch of Hopewell Junction, Maribeth De Lorenzo of Washington, DC, Elizabeth A. Coon of Poughkeepsie, and Maryellen Giovinazzo of Beacon; his sons, Michael S. De Lorenzo and his wife Susan of LaGrange, Christopher J. De Lorenzo of Buffalo, and Michael D. Coon of Miami, FL; his 7 grandchildren; his 2 great-grandchildren; his sister, Rose Campbell of Ft. Pierce, FL; 2 nephews; and 1 niece. He was also predeceased by his brother, James De Lorenzo in October 1997 and his sister, Claire Toy.
Donations in memory of Dr. De Lorenzo may be made to the new Pediatric Unit at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and mailed to: Vassar Brothers Foundation, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
