Obituary

Michael L. O'Toole, 59, of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, died July 5, 2013 at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, New Jersey. Born September 22, 1953, Michael was the son of the late Helen and John O'Toole. He is survived by his loving family: sister and brother-in-law, Maryann and Richard Martini; brother and sister-in-law, John and Lucy O'Toole; brother and sister-in-law Patrick and Patricia O'Toole and brothers Thomas and Joseph O'Toole. Michael is also survived by niece Dana and nephews Daryl and Kenneth Martini, Christopher, Robert, Michael and Joseph O'Toole, as well as great nieces and nephews Jade, Kayla, Alysa, Emma and Anthony Martini and Jaden, Maggie Rose, Leila Grace and Cecelia Helen O'Toole.
Michael received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration/Management from Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY and his Master of Science in Communication Arts ABT from Iona College in New Rochelle. After working for many years at ADP, Michael discovered his love for education which led him into a professional career in academia. In 2003-2011 Michael taught at Bergen Community College in their Adult Education Program, where he taught ESL, GED and basic skills classes. He also prepared adult students for reentry into the job market with resumes, interview and computer skills. In 2008, Michael became an adjunct professor for Programs in Language, Culture and Professional Advancement at Fairleigh Dickinson University where he worked until becoming ill in December 2012.
Michael adored his entire family and cherished every moment he spent with each of them. Michael enjoyed traveling, especially to beach locations in the Caribbean and Cape Cod. One traveling highlight was his trip to Ireland. Michael loved sharing his real life family and life situations when teaching his students. He brought into the classroom a love of learning and education.
Michael was a wonderful writer, with great insight into people. He often wrote beautiful poetry, which he gave as birthday gifts to family and friends. He had a generous spirit and a depth of character that was admired by everyone he touched.
Arrangements are being handled by McHoul Funeral Home, Fishkill, New York. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 20th at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
