STORMVILLE - Michael Francis Whalen, 52, an area resident since 1973 and formerly of Queens, died on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home.

Born in Jamaica, Queens on June 29, 1960, he was the son of Lorraine Whalen of Hopewell Junction and the late James R. Whalen. Michael was a self-employed mason. He was a member of the Whortlekill Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his mother, Michael is survived by his fiancé, Janice Alvarez; his children, Shannon Whalen-Fauteux and husband Travis of Hyde Park and Shawn Whalen and fiancé Cayleigh Haun of Hyde Park; his stepchildren, Danielle Alvarez of Stormville and Brandon Alvarez of Holmes; his brothers, James Whalen and wife Nivia of Pine Plains and Richard Whalen of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, Ryder, Fiona, Avery, Andrea and Taylor; his nephews, Jimmy, Joey and Tommy Whalen; and his dog and best friend, "BOF" Cledus.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by the funeral service at 7pm. Private interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
