Mike J. Zedda, 89, of Fishkill, passed on May 29, 2011 after a short illness.
Born April 17, 1922 in Pierce, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Gioacchino and Donatella DiBacco Zedda. He grew up in Ossining and was a proud Army Veteran of World War II serving in Company A, 551st Engineer Heavy Pontoon Battalion.
Retiring after 28 years working as a Painter Supervisor at the VA Hospital in Montrose, Mike worked another 18 years as a courier for Albany Savings Bank. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and gardener. He treasured his time spent with family and friends.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Victoria Pirillo, he is survived by his daughters, Ann Marie and her husband Thomas Troy, and Patricia Zedda and her husband Sam Wishart; his grandchildren, Teresa, Thomas and Michele Troy; his sister, Mafalda Fasciani; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Frank Zedda and his sister, Rose Trembone.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill followed by interment in Fishkill Rural Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike's memory to the NYS Veterans' Home at Montrose, 2090 Albany Post Road, Montrose, NY 10548.
