Mirlaine Vasquez Ferguson, 54, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was a Hopewell Junction resident since 2005 and formerly of Jamaica, Queens from 1985-2005.
Born in Haiti on March 31, 1959, Mirlaine was the daughter of Antonio and Rosita (Pedro) Vasquez. She was a parishioner at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction.
An avid reader, she also liked going to the movies and Broadway shows. Mirlaine loved animals, especially her dog Willie and cat Caesar. She enjoyed cooking and sending beautiful greeting cards for all occasions. Most of all, she loved her family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with each one of them.
Mirlaine is survived by her loving children, Stephanie Ferguson of Long Island and Alix Ferguson of Long Island; her brother, Fito Vasquez of Port-au-Prince, Haiti; her five sisters, Andree Vasquez of Drumms, PA, Roselande Jean-Baptiste of Queens, France Moise of Mohegan Lake, Ultima Tetteh of Hopewell Junction, Frederika C. Vasquez of Brooklyn and several nieces and nephews of to whom she was like a second mother to. She is predeceased by her sister, Carmel Dalusma who recently passed away on September 30, 2013.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
