Monika Szulc-Fabijanowski, a beloved wife and mother passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, following a courageous and dignified battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 59 years old.
Born in Warsaw, Poland, on December 20, 1965, Monika was the daughter of the late Antoni and Sanislawa (Karbowska) Szulc. In 1989, she embarked on a new chapter in her life, emigrating to the United States and eventually settling in Long Island. With an unwavering commitment to education and self-improvement, she earned master's degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science from the City University of New York and Stony Brook University, respectively.
Monika was an exceptionally talented Software Engineer whose expertise shaped the success of several prominent companies, including Balyasny Asset Management, Gemini Trust Company, and CBOE Global Markets. A highly skilled professional, she was known for her sharp intellect, meticulous work ethic, and her passion for technology. But beyond her professional achievements, Monika was a woman of many interests. She treasured time spent with her family, found solace in the beauty of her homeland, Poland, and had a profound love for history, politics, art, music, and the quiet joy of gardening.
On November 8, 1996, Monika married the love of her life, Marek Fabijanowski, in Islip, NY, and the two shared nearly three decades of love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their marriage was a testament to their deep bond, mutual respect, and enduring devotion to one another.
A devout Catholic, Monika's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She attended Mass regularly and shared the power of prayer with her family, leaving a lasting legacy of faith, love, and grace. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. With a heart full of compassion, Monika had a remarkable ability to uplift others, offering encouragement, humor, and words of kindness when they were most needed.
Monika is survived by her devoted husband, Marek, her beloved children, Claire Fabijanowski and Philip Fabijanowski, and a family and circle of friends whose lives were enriched by her love, strength, and wisdom.
Her passing leaves an indescribable void in the hearts of those who knew her. Monika's radiant spirit will forever be remembered, and her legacy of kindness and resilience will continue to inspire all who had the honor of crossing her path.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, October 3, at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY. Interment will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon, NY.
