Obituary

Myung Ja Chun, a resident of Fishkill, NY since 1970, passed away on April 22, 2026 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. She was 88 years old. Born in Seosan, Korea on November 23, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Jae Yeon and Chunyeol (Choi) Kim. In December of 1963, she married her beloved husband Sae Douk Chun in New York City. He predeceased her in October of 1999.

Myung Ja taught Korean for many years and was recognized in 1988 by the Dept of Ministry of Education in Korea for development and dedication to teaching the Korean language, as well as in 1990 and 1997 by the Teachers Association of NY for teaching the Korean language.

Myung Ja was a dedicated member of the Mid Hudson United Methodist Korean Church in Poughkeepsie. In her spare time, she loved to sing in the choir. Myung Ja was an avid golfer. She was a past member of the IBM Country Club as well as West Palm Beach and Port St. Lucie Country Clubs and she even won several golf championships. She loved her family, and was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Martha Chun Hahn and her husband Richard, Susan Chun, Michael Chun and his wife Serena, and Christine Yom and her husband John; her grandchildren: Alyssa Yuna Hahn and her husband Raymond Chau, Alexandra Yuni Hahn and husband Randal Lindsell, Sofia Yuri Hahn, Christian and Chase Yom, and Lakeland and Gibson Chun.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday April 25, 2026 from 3-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main St., Fishkill.
