Nancy E. Gedney, age 76, passed away on May 14, 2024 at home being cared for by her devoted husband, Leslie A. Gedney. She was born on June 21, 1947 in Houlton, Maine to the late Frank R. Edwards and Pauline (Splan) Edwards. She and Leslie had a life-long love of the state of Maine, and their wish to retire there was cut short by her illness.
On June 1, 1969, Nancy married her beloved husband Leslie in Rye, New York. On June 1st of this year they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Nancy and Les resided in Purchase raising two daughters, many pets including a goose, and spending time with their two grandchildren who were a significant part of their lives. They were devout members of the Lake Street Full Gospel Church.
In the 1980's, Nancy and her partner, Mark Kaplan, had great success running two restaurants - The American Bistro in Mamaroneck and Persnickety in Somers. In the 1990's, Nancy switched gears, becoming a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, followed by receiving her Masters Degree in Social Work. She then enjoyed a second successful and impactful career as a private therapist and school social worker, working at the Kaplan Academy and retiring in 2018 from the Greenburgh-North Castle UFSD where she was cherished by her colleagues as well as the students she counseled. To know her was to love her.
Nancy was an avid gardener, skilled at everything she undertook, and loved traveling with her sister and best friend, Dianne.
In addition to her husband Les, Nancy is survived by their children Jennifer Havlick and Samantha G. Flynn; grandchildren James David Flynn and Hollie Steffensen; sisters Dianne Terpening and Kim Fitzpatrick; nephews Scott and Lance Terpening, cousins, and grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Tim Fitzpatrick.
